A precious metals desk should know who is buying, who is paying and where the funds originate. That does not need to feel intrusive when it is explained clearly. Clients are simply asked to provide enough information for the desk to comply with payment, fraud and anti-money-laundering controls.
For company orders, the desk may request incorporation documents, beneficial ownership details, authorised signatory information and a business bank statement showing the paying account. For individual clients, the desk may request government identification, proof of address and confirmation that the payer matches the buyer.
An order is confirmed when the quote is accepted, required verification is completed and payment clears within the stated window.
Third-party payments should not be sent without prior written approval. Unapproved third-party funds may be rejected, delayed or returned less bank charges.
The desk may re-price the order, request an additional payment, apply a market loss adjustment or cancel the invoice depending on market movement and policy.
